Important Information Concerning COVID-19 Testing:

NOT ALL COVID-19 TESTS ARE THE SAME. "Rapid antibody tests" do not indicate if you have an active infection, it can take 10-14 days before an infected individual gains enough antibodies to test positive. The "gold standard" for current infections is the "RT-PCR" test. There is a period of time (3-5 days) between when a person is exposed to the virus and when there is enough of the virus in the body to detect in a test (sometimes called sufficient viral load). During that time, a person may have no symptoms and would have a negative COVID-19 test, but they would still be infected and potentially contagious to others. This is why it is vital that you follow quarantine guidelines.
NOT EVERYONE SHOULD BE TESTED. Diagnostic tests are intended to determine with a high level of confidence whether an individual is currently infected with the virus. These tests could be used for individuals who are suspected of having COVID-19 because of their symptoms, asymptomatic individuals who have been exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19, or individuals in particularly high-risk groups who have participated in large gatherings.

Due to the complexities of performing an accurate COVID-19 tests and high chance of false results with rapid tests (see latest information here), we do not perform COVID-19 testing in our office. We are following the guidance set forth by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and making referrals to their testing centers for the PCR testing as appropriate. A list of known COVID-19 testing sites can be found by clicking on the button below. As pediatric testing centers become available, we will update information here and on our Facebook page.
